My body is a compass

“I started writting this essay 5 years ago as a coping mechanism while being interviewed by the Toronto Star in the wake of the “me too” movement. I do not linger in the details of my personal experience as a survivor of sexual assault but rather explore my journey in identifying myself as such. My personal story sets the stage for a decolonial analysis of the jurisprudence of sexual assault law from the landbase that I write – Turtle Island. I am indebted to the work of Sarah Deer and John Burrows.”
